The album includes my arrangements of a few Irish songs, an awesome, ripping' old-time song called Red Rockin' Chair (from which the album gets its name), covers of Scythian's "Song of Sacrifice" and Tommy Sand's "There Were Roses," and a few of my original tunes and songs written with an Irish and/or Appalachian feel.

about

I wrote this song when I was about 16. I wanted to write something in the style of an old ballad/sea shanty and this is what came out! Thanks to Eric who helped write the vocal harmony on this one during a previous, failed attempt at recording this solo album:)…

lyrics

There once was a girl that I loved so well / She lived with her parents and sisters three. / My intentions were pure, my advances were tame, / But the heart of this young maid I struggled to gain.

And those black eyes have gone from me, oh the girl I loved so well!

I courted her long and I gazed in her eyes / But they always seemed to look down to the side. / Our love, she explained, it could never be, / For she'd given her hand to a sailor at sea.

The news came one morning her sailor at sea / Had married a lass in the Caribee. / Her heart it was broken and she flew away / And she swore she'd not stop while there's light in the day.

Her mother and sisters were all kind to me / But nothing could tear me from my grief. / Seeing them there did only awake / More feelings of loss that she'd left in her wake.

Next morning early I'll set out to start / To find this girl and to win her heart. / Though mountains are tall and the oceans have tides, / The tides may be strong and the rivers be wide...

But I'll find her, where she has gone. She's the girl I love...
And those black eyes have gone from me, She's the girl I love so well!
She's the girl I love so well.
